Volunteer Opportunities Suitable for Groups
Emergency Benefits Outreach
Flexible Time/Location – please contact us to set up a time
We need volunteers to help us distribute flyers of information on emergency assistance available to victims of Hurricane Sandy. Volunteers will pick up flyers from Met Council offices and distribute the information to convenience stores, community centers, housing sites, and individuals on the street in target areas. This opportunity will require lots of walking and possible travel by mass transit.

Needs Assessment
Volunteers will assess the needs of the community in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Volunteers will go door to door and ask individuals and families what their greatest need is. The information will then be used to provide better and more impactful services.

·         Location: Abraham Residence II 3915 Neptune Avenue. (Brooklyn)
·         Time: 11:30am (ending around 12pm)

Volunteer Opportunities Suitable for Individuals

Senior Socialization
Many of our seniors have been dislocated from their homes because of the storm and are feeling down because they are in a different less comfortable place. Volunteers will socialize and play games with senior residents to cheer them up. This is a good opportunity for groups. Please bring games or cards!

·         Location: Council Towers III Low-income Senior Housing, 1170 Pennsylvania Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11239.

Thanksgiving Lunch
We will have a Thanksgiving dinner catered and volunteers will help to set up, clean up, and serve the meal to our senior residence affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Door to Door Community Clean Up
Volunteers are needed for heavy-duty cleaning of homes which were badly flooded. Note: this is not LIGHT cleaning. It includes but is not limited to: removing furniture, mucking out mud, et cetera.

·         Time: 10:30AM
·         Meeting Place: meet outside the entrance of Biltmore General Contracting building:

Please read, items for collection have changed.

We are collecting the following items for the victims of Hurricane Sandy:
-       Cleaning Supplies (URGENT!)
o   Garbage bags
o   Gloves
o   Goggles
o   Bleach
o   Sponges
o   Cleaning Solution
o   Other supplies for cleaning
-       Paper Goods (ie. toilet paper, napkins, paper towels)
-       Toiletries, including:
o   Soap
o   Toothpaste
o   Toilet paper
-       NEW Blankets
-       School Supplies

Please no food or clothing.
