Congratulations to
Jodi Smith our January 2013 Volunteer of the Month!
Jodi is originally
from Long Island, New York and went to Washington University in St. Louis for
college. She returned to New York after graduating to give back in a non-profit
career. She currently works in Jewish Education at a synagogue in Great Neck,
NY. started out with Met Council by volunteering for the Senior Lunch Program
with a group of 20’s and 30’s who are interested in social action/social
justice through Bnai Jeshurun, a synagogue on the upper west side since 2010.
Her natural
leadership abilities, dedication, and exemplary performance was did not go
unnoticed. She then became a volunteer leader for Met Council’s Senior Lunch
program and leads once a month. Through this commitment and honor, she has been
able to develop long lasting relationships with the seniors and bring them
happiness. Jodi often participates in
other large Met Council volunteer initiatives as well such as Thanksgiving and
looks forward to many more events to come!
Volunteering is
important for Jodi because of the sense of community it creates. She has
enjoyed developing relationships with the seniors at our low-income housing
sites and with the other volunteers. Getting to know the clients on a personal
level and bringing them joy each week has been the most rewarding aspect of her
volunteer career.
