Denat Shehi is a high school junior at E.F. International Academy, where he has an A average. When he’s not studying or in school, Denat can be found playing basketball, football, or soccer or working at his after-school job in a pizza parlor. He is also proud to be a newly licensed driver.
Denat came to Met Council in early May, expecting to slog
through a boring office stint to fulfill his school’s community service
requirement. To his surprise, however, Denat discovered meaning and excitement
in his work. He has quickly become a cheerful staple in the Volunteer Department.
On a given weekday, Denat - AKA “The
Labeler” – can now be found making phone calls to prospective volunteers,
soliciting in-kind donations for Hurricane Sandy survivors, corresponding with
local government, or even taking pride in his clerical skills, labeling and
stuffing envelopes for anyone who needs his help.
Everyone at Met Council is grateful to Denat for his hard
work and enthusiasm over the past month. His eagerness to learn and willingness
to jump in and do whatever is needed have made him an invaluable member of the
team. We’ll be sad when he goes back to school in the fall, but we’re excited
to see what bright things are in store for this exceptional youngster’s future!
