Take time before your holiday to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy

Before you go on vacation tomorrow, please take some time to volunteer for Sandy victims in Brooklyn.

Volunteers will assess the needs of the community in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Volunteers will go door to door with a survey and ask individuals and families what their greatest needs are so we can better provide help in the future. We will also be distributing water and attending some holiday distribution events to help out.

Volunteers will be trained on sight and accompanied by a representative from Red Cross and Occupy Sandy. Regular volunteering is very welcome and needed for this ongoing effort.

Volunteers must be 18 and over and able to walk up 14 flights of stairs. Dress warm, buildings may have no heat and there will be time spent outside.

NO NEED TO SIGN UP! please just show up at the meeting point.

Location: Coney Island Gospel Assembly - 2828 Neptune Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. We will be meeting at the trailer across the street from the church.

Emergency Volunteer Need This Week

Met Council has an emergency need for a handful of volunteers to assist in canvassing efforts this week. We need volunteers willing to go out to Far Rockaway and Coney Island to hand out flyers and help promote awareness of the new disaster SNAP benefits program.

Date and time is flexible this week… we can work around your schedule, but timing is of the essence as there is only one week to enroll in the program. Please email Eric at econle@metcouncil.org if you are interested.
Met Council will provide a round trip Metrocards to volunteers on this project.

Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts in Staten Island

Met Council volunteers continued their Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in Staten Island this past Sunday. The turnout was remarkable!  We had over 40 volunteers show up to help remove molded drywall and insulation and even serve hot meals. A picture is worth a thousand words, so we'll let a photo blog do the talking:
